A hearing in the money laundering trial against President Abdulla Yameen has been scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The hearing which will be open for public will be held at the Criminal Court at 9:30am. So far, three hearings have been held in the trial.

During the last hearing which was held on September 3rd, witness statements were collected from several witnesses produced by the prosecution. These included former Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer, Bank of Maldives Deputy CEO and Operations Director Mohamed Shareef and former State Minister for Economic Development Mohamed Luwaiz.

Only former President of ACC, Hassan Lutuhufee remains to give witness testimony as part of the prosecution. He had refuted to give the testimony previously.

The prosecution had then moved to request to view footage of Luthufee during his statement to the Police, since he kept claiming that he gave the statement under several threats. The prosecution noted that it would be evident through his body language if he was really threatened.

Refuting this, the defense said that Police threatening Luthufee could not be determined by the body language in the footage. The defense also asked to present documents which will proof that the prosecution had tried to obtain a testimony through the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia.

After listening to both parties, Judge Ahmed Hailam revealed that they will decide on whether to review the footage or not during the next trial hearing.
