The Managing Director and CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim has visited project sites in Hanimaadhoo, Kelaa, Hoarafushi and Kulhudhuffushi City with the media.

Regarding the harbor and road development project conducted by MTCC in Hanimaadhoo, Azim said that both the projects are going smoothly. The road development project worth MVR 46 million that began in June 2019 will see pavements and tarmacs on 18 roads.

Azim said that 38 percent of the project has now been completed and is expected to be completed by August 2020.

In regard to the MVR 57 million project of the harbor, Azim said that they are conducting a survey on environmental impact. He said that the Hanimaadhoo harbor will be environmentally friendly by it’s completion in mid-2021.

The press tour made a stop at the Haa Alifu Kelaa to visit the project site of the second phase of the island’s harbor project. The CEO of MTCC said that they are aiming to complete the project this June. However, there are challenges to gathering sand at the dredge sites.

Under the Kelaa harbor project, an area of 16,264 cubic meters will be dug and an outer sea wall of 31 meters will be built with an inner sea wall of 220 meters to protect the beaches. A 1,445 square foot of pavement will be developed as well on the harbor area.

Elaborating on the harbor expansion project worth MVR 126 million is ongoing in the Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi City, the Managing Director of MTCC, Azim, said that 85 percent of the project has been completed where an area 236,844 cubic meters has been dug and a sea wall of 658 meters will be built with an inner sea wall of 481 meters to protect the beach.

The project includes a terminal, a fish market and 148 floating pontoons. This project is set to be completed this June.

The Haa Alifu Hoarafushi airport development project is contracted to the MTCC. Regarding the project worth MVR 198 million, Azim said that 52 percent of the project has been completed and the development phase of the project can be completed by September 2020.

Azim said that MTCC is currently conducting 40 projects nation-wide. The workers on the projects are MTCC employees and the company has the resources for the project according to the company’s Managing Director and CEO.
