Criminal Court on Monday sentenced former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to 20 years in prison along with a MVR 2 million fine for the MMPRC Corruption Scandal.

After Adeeb was found guilty of all charges, Judge Hassan Saeed sentenced Adeeb to 20 years and prison and a fine of MVR 2 million, as requested by the state under a plea deal reached with Adeeb.

The state brought up the seven charges against the former Vice President. They are, accessory to corruption, abusing official authority, abusing the authority of office for personal gain and two counts of money laundering.

The charges and the penalties:

- Charge: Accomplice to embezzlement

- Verdict: 14 years, 9 months and 18 days in prison

- Charge: Accomplice to embezzlement

- Verdict: 2 years, 4 months and 24 days in prison

- Charge: Misuse of official capacity to obtain or confer an undue advantage

- Verdict: 6 months in prison

- Charge: Misuse of official capacity to obtain or confer an undue advantage

- Verdict: 1 month and 15 days in prison

- Charge: Abuse of power

- Verdict: 3 months in prison

- Charge: Money laundering

- Verdict: 5 years, 11 months and 21 days in prison, and a MVR 1 million fine

- Charge: Money laundering

- Verdict: 5 years, 11 months and 12 days in prison, and a MVR 1 million fine

The judge also ordered Adeeb to pay the fines within one month to MIRA.
