Coach of Odi Sports Club, Andrés García, has noted that the first two weeks of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League have highlighted the strength and growing competitiveness of the tournament.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, García observed that while the opening week saw some teams record easy wins, the following matches became more closely contested. He said the narrowing score gaps reflect how teams are settling into the league and preparing better, which in turn is raising the overall standard of play.
García, who hails from Spain, added that he had expected a competitive season from the start, especially with the return of the league after a two-year break. He attributed this to the renewed interest in football and the quality of players and coaches now involved.
Looking ahead, García emphasised the importance of maintaining Odi’s momentum as they face Victory in their next match. With the league set to pause for an international break, he said it was vital for his side to continue their strong start and avoid disruption to their form.
Odi currently sits at the top of the table with six points from two matches, leading on goal difference. They will play Victory on Thursday night at 9 p.m. at the national stadium.
