Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has instructed residents to remove plant enclosures and fencing set up around apartment complexes in Hulhumalé.

HDC posted public notices today near residential buildings across Hulhumalé Phase 1, ordering the removal of these enclosures and the clearance of surrounding areas before 11:59 PM this coming Friday.

The corporation stated that any items not removed within the designated deadline will be treated as abandoned property and cleared by HDC in coordination with relevant authorities. HDC added that it will not assume liability for any loss or damage caused to property during the clearance operation.

An HDC media official told One Online today that while the enclosures must be dismantled, residents will still be permitted to keep certain plants. Furthermore, once the areas are cleared, permission will be granted to plant specific, approved varieties.

However, the official clarified that planting large trees with expansive root systems that could cause structural damage to apartment buildings—such as breadfruit trees—will strictly not be allowed adjacent to the flats.
