Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) has confirmed that it is investigating a case involving the coach of the women’s national volleyball team, Sofwan Mohamed.

President of VAM, Mohamed Latheef, told One Sports that a five-member committee has been appointed to look into the matter. Sofwan, who coached the women’s team during the CAVA tournament held last year, has been temporarily relieved of his duties while the investigation is ongoing.

Latheef said the issue is being handled as an internal matter and that details are being withheld to protect the coach’s reputation. He added that the team is continuing training under another coach during this period.

Although no formal written complaints were lodged against Sofwan, VAM decided to launch an independent inquiry after receiving information from team members. Latheef stressed that the association’s main priority is to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all players.

He also noted that while Sofwan remains an executive committee member of VAM, no action will be taken regarding his position until the committee completes its review. The investigation committee has been given seven days to submit its report to the VAM Executive Committee.
