The proposed 2027 State Budget allocates MVR 10.2 billion to strengthen healthcare services and improve access to quality treatment across the Maldives.

Presenting the budget to Parliament, Finance Minister Hassan Zareer said quality healthcare is essential for public well-being and the country’s future.

The Government plans to establish the Maldives Tertiary Hospitals Group next year, bringing together tertiary hospitals and those being upgraded to that level. The initiative aims to improve healthcare services for patients across the country.

The budget will also prioritise centralised procurement of medical consumables and equipment for hospitals, while strengthening medicine procurement through StatePharma to reduce costs and improve access to essential medicines.

Additional priorities include expanding diagnostic services such as echocardiography, X-rays, CT scans and MRI, as well as dental care, cancer treatment, women’s health and maternal services.

The Minister said further efforts would be made to expand specialised healthcare services next year.
