Former MDP President Abdulla Shahid, who was arrested under allegations of sexually abusing a minor, has been remanded for 30 days.
Police stated last night that Abdulla Shahid (64), H. Rabieemanzil, was arrested under a court order at around 9:59 PM last night on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor under 18 years of age. However, no further details regarding the matter were provided.
Police stated today that upon presenting Shahid to court to decide on his remand, the court ordered him to be detained for 30 days.
Before his arrest, after news reports surfaced in various publications, Shahid denied the reports in an X post at the time, stating that the politically motivated claims aimed at assassinating his character were entirely baseless and false, and urged against spreading such unsubstantiated rumors.
Not long after Shahid—the former Foreign Minister and former President of the United Nations General Assembly who announced his candidacy for the MDP presidential primary—denied the reports, police arrested him.
