Maldives Police Serivce (MPS) has said that those who aided in the escape attempt of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb will be investigated and brought to justice.
Indian authorities had arrested Adeeb, after he eached India via sea route and was questioned by central agencies off the coast of Tamil Nadu.
In a statement issued by Maldives Police Service, they noted that works have begun to extradite Adeeb with the help of neighbouring countries. They noted that Adeeb had failed to present himself for an investigation on Wednesday, over the MMPRC Corruption Scandal.
The statement by Police also noted that Adeeb was caught trying to enter India via sea route during a time when his passport was withheld by the Supreme Court of the Maldives over a case that had been submitted to the court.
Officials intercepted the barge mid-sea after a tip-off, and Ahmed Adeeb was held on board and not permitted to step foot in India. According to investigators, Adeeb was secured while on board a barge named Virgo 9, which had returned to Tuticorin with a crew of nine in addition to Adeeb. The rest of the crew had valid documents but Adeeb's passport had been confiscated by the Supreme Court.
