Leader of the Jumhoory Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim, has retaliated against former President Nasheed. Qasim made the remarks at the ceremony signing to the former Acting Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Nawaz to JP, held at the Maafannu Kunooz.

Qasim did not refer to Nasheed by name, but said that one cannot advocate against all powers of a government being under one hand initially, and go against it at the very next moment. The JP leader noted that Maldivians have always opposed authoritative powers culminating under one person's rule and added that this is very apparent throughout how events have unfolded previously. He also said that the citizens of this country will remain steadfast in these views.

While Qasim has made indirect remarks about Nasheed, the former President had repeatedly called for an MDP majority in the upcoming Parliamentary election. Nasheed had also, on various occasions, said that this is the way to accomplish all the change that has been promised by the new administration.

Qasim responded to Nasheed's recent words against business owners and the wealthy. The JP leader said that electing businessmen or the wealthy to the Parliamentary body can only be of benefit to the nation. He said that the people who would work diligently towards the progress of the people, are elected officials who are familiar with major responsibility. He reiterated that those without previous responsibilities will settle for mediocrity and that they would not keep the people's wishes in mind.

While Qasim had made his views on business owners and Parliamentary elections clear, former President Nasheed had recently said that business owners should not run for Parliament. Nasheed had also reiterated that people in the elected seat of Parliament should not conduct businesses and that a Parliamentary position is not a get-rich scheme.

Qasim said in his address that no matter what any one person says, the current administration is a coalition effort and said that President Ibrahim Solih also confirms this. Qasim Ibrahim said that President Ibrahim Solih has said repeatedly, that the powers of coalition in this administration will be sustained. The JP leader said that he will remain steadfast in his support, provided that President Solih maintains the coalition throughout this administration as previously agreed.

Qasim had also responded to Nasheed's calls for an MDP majority at the 19th Parliamentary body and said that MDP has a share in this administration. He disputed Nasheed's claims that the government will not be able to properly function if MDP does not gain a majority at Parliament. Qasim said that the government will not simply cease to exist if MDP does not have a majority at Parliament. He said that the responsibility of sustaining governance rests upon all members of the coalition and that all parties are working towards the goal.

Qasim implied towards Nasheed and said that "he" was fond of Qasim's businesses under Villa prior to the election of the current administration. The JP leader said that Villa and all other associated businesses are seen in an unfavorable light by Nasheed at this time. Qasim noted that there is a lot of effort from independent parties involved in the running of a nation.

Qasim stressed that JP will not comply with any action that is against the law. He further reiterated that the evidence of this has been seen before and that no one can go against the law.

While the leader of JP has gone against MDP Nasheed's words, both parties have disagreed on various issues following the Presidential election. The Maldivian Democratic Party is running for every single seat in the upcoming Parliament, save one.

President Solih had previously met with MDP's national council and leaders of the coalition. This meeting was held amidst varying disagreements between the parties concerning terms of agreements made among political parties of the coalition prior to the election. The issue has not yet been resolved as was seen by heated debates concerning Parliamentary seats.

The debate got heated when former President Nasheed made the submission at MDP, for majority of the party to contest for Parliament. Nasheed had succeeded in his bid to win an MDP majority.

Nasheed had proposed MDP to run for 87 different constituencies in the upcoming Parliamentary election, and gotten the bid approved by MDP. The MDP National Council had then declared that President Solih will not be endorsing any candidates due to his responsibilities of being impartial as the President of Maldives. President Solih had maintained that his views lie in supporting the coalition. The then presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was a member of the coalition who had signed the agreement of the coalition.
